Review For Movie Vs
Constantly struggling to match the promise of its premise, writer/director/star Jason Trost becomes mired in his own cyclical construct in the offbeat but underwhelming All Superheroes Must Die.
Simon Foster-Screen-Space

Written in four days and shot in fifteen, this homegrown indie shows its seams...in cinematic terms, it's pretty weak sauce.
Peter Canavese-Groucho Reviews

A DOA effort that's severely flawed and poorly executed, attempting to find a dark, personal side of crime fighting and its foundation of courage with a lunch-money budget.
Brian Orndorf-Blu-ray.com

I want to see Trost re-visit All Superheroes Must Die with a much bigger budget someday, because I know he can deliver something tenfold better given the proper funding such an idea deserves.

Review For Movie Hugo
Being a hardcore cinephile (like Scorsese) might add a layer of enjoyment, but it certainly isn't a prerequisite for walking in the door. A sense of wonder, however, is.

'Hugo': Scorsese's humbling hommage to his favorite art
Joe Baltake-Passionate Moviegoer

It might be curtains for celluloid, but Scorsese, a boyish 69, clearly isn't leaving the stage any time soon. He directs every film with the passion of his first. And it shows.
Cath Clarke-Time Out

Thematic potency and cinematic virtuosity -- the production was designed by Dante Ferretti and photographed by Robert Richardson -- can't conceal a deadly inertness at the film's core.
Joe Morgenstern-Wall Street Journal

For all the wizardry on display, Hugo often feels like a film about magic instead of a magical film...

Scorsese is a master storyteller and one of the best directors working today. He doesn't need a gimmick like 3-D to prove this. His films speak more than enough for themselves and "Hugo" is no exception.
Jeff Beck-Examiner.com

It's an ode to cinema; it's everything that modern cinematic audiences take for granted. This film is Scorsese's gift to an audience that isn't old enough to have ever heard his name.
Blake Howard-2UE That Movie Show

If you've become a little cynical about going to movies due to inflated ticket prices, Michael Bay films and chatty audiences, Hugo may restore your faith in the wonder of cinema.

Review For Movie The Sorcerer and the White Snake
These showdowns feature spectacular, Lord of the Rings-style CGI settings, but not much in the way of thrills or terror.
Mark Jenkins-NPR

The clunky action mostly revolves around uninspired wire-fu choreography: Monks fly around while flailing their arms as hordes of CGI creatures gather around and then do nothing.
Simon Abrams-Village Voice

A silly, derivative supernatural-action extravaganza that would have been better at a fraction of its f/x budget.
Justin Chang-Variety

Fantastic visuals and non-stop action make for a spectacular, romantic Chinese CGI feast.
Deborah Young-Hollywood Reporter

The Sorcerer and the White Snake is unfortunately just another average Jet Li film to throw into the pile. Its bloated and overloaded use of mediocre special effects practically shackles the film to its humdrum atmosphere.
Chris Sawin-Examiner.com

A masterpiece of imagination. Offers wall-to-wall goofy fun for fans of martial arts flicks, fantasies, or just good old-fashioned cinematic nuttiness.
Mike McGranaghan-Aisle Seat

This hyperactive assault on the senses from Hong Kong is noteworthy only for its dazzling array of computer-generated special effects.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

We've seen this movie before, in better clothes and with a much higher IQ.
Rob Vaux-Mania.com

The film looks so glossy, plasticized, and unreal that all you end up thinking about is special effects.
Kenji Fujishima-Slant Magazine

An amusing Chinese martial arts reminder that not all cheese comes from Switzerland, or Wisconsin.
Roger Moore-Movie Nation

It's a sometimes charming film from the veteran action filmmaker, but remains a curiosity, lacking comic sharpness and romantic intensity.
Jason Di Rosso-MovieTime, ABC Radio National

There's hardly any love affair left really because the CGI has taken over with a vengeance. I got a bit bored by this, because it's just special effects, just CGI all the way through and the story is just shunted aside.
David Stratton-At the Movies (Australia)

The director has pulled out all stops to impress, perhaps a bit too excessively, so that the fragile emotions of this love affair are undermined.
Margaret Pomeranz-At the Movies (Australia)

Though The Sorcerer and the White Snake is excessive and at times jumbled, younger viewers will surely respond to the colourful characters and settings, and the bold vision on display is charming... for the most part.
Michael Simms-FILMINK (Australia)

With the mushometer maxed out, and a score that starts on overdrive and heads for overbearing, this ridiculously melodramatic tale of forbidden love tries to bury its narrative flaws with a colourful coating of CGI - but ends up a shiny glutinous mess.
Simon Weaving-Screenwize

Veteran animator Hayao Miyazaki directs this buoyant children's adventure yarn about a young witch striking out on her own. At her mother's behest, 13-year-old Kiki sets out on a year-long apprenticeship with her black cat in tow. With a shaky command of her broom, she ends up in a charming little coastal town that looks like a cross between the French provincial and San Francisco. Unfortunately, the local hotels have a strict "no witches" policy and the police have taken a dim view of her recent aerial mischief-making. She's saved from the street by a kindly baker's wife, who offers her room and board in exchange for her delivering by broom the baker's wares. Soon she befriends a college-aged artist, an old women who fusses over her, and a boy her same age who is nursing a massive crush. All is well until she wakes up one day and realizes that she can't make her broom levitate nor can she talk to her cat. What will Kiki do? ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

The characters are gently and warmly rendered, and a climactic action sequence involving an unmoored dirigible hints at the stately grandiosity of Miyazaki's masterpiece Howl's Moving Castle.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

Top-drawer kiddie fare for both fans of the exotic and mainstream family auds.
Ken Eisner-Variety

A terrific alternative to the diabetic's nightmare that is most of Disney's output, Kiki's Delivery Service takes pride of place in Miyazaki's exceptional body of work.
Andrew Osmond-Empire Magazine

A wonderful and enchanting animated film about a 13-year-old girl's initiation into adulthood through her adventures in a strange city.
Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat-Spirituality and Practice

The magic of Kiki is the girl's sense of wonder in her new world, whether it's her soaring flight among the migrating geese or a bicycle ride... to see the dirigible.
Sean Axmaker-Seanax.com

A fine, sincere piece of bittersweet delight.
Tim Brayton-Antagony & Ecstasy

An excellent alternative to much of the frenetic, princess-driven fare that seems to dominate the genre.
Ryan Cracknell-Movie Views

Miyazaki has found here the perfect balance between allegory and the actual.
Bill Gibron-PopMatters

In a career full of quiet, unassuming animated yarns, Kiki's Delivery Service may be one of the quietest.
Eric Henderson-Slant Magazine

The animation is particularly fluid, especially in the scenes where Kiki flies over the city and along its streets.
-TV Guide's Movie Guide

An enchanting, moving story that focuses on emotion, not action.
-Film4

Adorable. I loved it.
Staci Layne Wilson-StaciWilson.com

One of Miyazaki's most personable protagonists, a delightful cast of supporting characters, and a rambling, episodic story full of charming incident and irresistible imagery.
Steven D. Greydanus-Decent Films Guide

The gentlest and most sweet-tempered Miyazaki film I've seen -- yet it's not without the strange undercurrent of something slightly sinister that exists in all his works.
Ken Hanke-Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)

Miyazaki's suffusing kindness makes Kiki's adventures winning without being overly scary.
Jurgen Fauth-About.com

It is a terrific movie that I know most young girls will enjoy. Boys, too, though they probably won't admit it.

With so much nasty and unpleasant stuff floating around in contemporary culture, something as good-natured as this comes as a surprise.

A feast of ripe dialogue and bloodsucking action.
Bruce Diones-New Yorker

The fifth and final entry in the historically successful "Twilight" franchise is the most self-aware and in some ways the most entertaining.
Richard Roeper-Richard Roeper.com

If anything, this series has gotten dumber and more inert as it has progressed, with this last one finally reaching over into an extended wallow in camp.
Bilge Ebiri-New York Magazine

I'll probably never understand the popularity of the Twilight movies. They're haphazardly assembled adaptations of awful books.
James Berardinelli-ReelViews

You're going to hear a lot about Breaking Dawn Part 2 being the best of the Twilight movies. That's like saying a simple head cold is preferable to swine flu.
Peter Travers-Rolling Stone

The 'Twilight Saga' has no upmarket aspirations. Seeking neither critical applause or peer-review awards, these movies, like those of Tyler Perry, seek only to provide unabashed satisfaction to those who believe in their characters.
Glenn Kenny-MSN Movies

The film's long middle is still a slog, but the beginning and ending are loud and weird enough to supply solid entertainment.

"Breaking Dawn Part 2" offers readers and moviegoers the ending they hoped for. Only problem is most will be asking for more and wishing it was not the final chapter.
Jolene Mendez-Entertainment Spectrum

If only the other films in the series featured such surprises (as in this film's climactic battle) instead of being so by-the-numbers in adaptation and crafting, the saga might have proven more significant.
Fr. Chris Carpenter-Movie Dearest

This franchise ends with a fitting finale that neither proves the series worth, nor does it disappoint the faithful.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

The big payoff to the Twilight saga is a solidly mounted, carefully directed exercise in franchise box-ticking... Even the decapitations are done tastefully.

Haters will hate, Twi-hards will love hard and the objective viewer will find another flawed spectacle which, while not as without merit as some would argue, is still easy to pick apart.
